Maria Mama wa Yesu, a woman from Busia County who boldly claims to be the mother of Jesus, has stunned many Kenyans with an unusual account of her birth. In an interview with Radio 47, Maria, whose real name is Ruth Nafula, said she was born in 1975 at Mulago Hospital in Uganda — but not as a black child.
“My mother told me I was born a Mzungu, only my hair was black. The doctors were shocked seeing an African woman give birth to a white baby,” she claimed. According to her, medical staff at the hospital were so baffled that they gathered around, unsure of what to make of the situation. Her mother, too, was reportedly confused.
Maria said she attracted attention as a child, with people coming from far and wide to see her. “They viewed me as a gift,” she said. However, her health declined at the age of six, and she often asked why she was in pain. “My bones used to hurt me. I asked what I did wrong,” she recounted.
One of the most dramatic moments in her life came when her father died. Before his passing, he opened the Bible to Luke 4:18-19 and told her that he was dying because of the verse. It reads in part: “He has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor… to set the oppressed free.”
Maria also claimed she once raised a dead person back to life after receiving divine instructions. She described how she was guided step-by-step by God, placing her hands on the body and praying until the person reportedly began breathing again.
Her revelations have sparked disbelief, laughter, and concern on social media. Some users encouraged her to seek help, while others found the claims too bizarre to take seriously.
