Activist Boniface Mwangi has slammed blogger Ndiang’ui Kinyagia for what he described as a shameful and reckless act that fooled the entire nation.
Mwangi did not mince his words, accusing Kinyagia and his family of misleading Kenyans by claiming he was missing, only for him to resurface safe and sound.
Kinyagia’s sudden disappearance triggered an uproar online and even forced a court to summon the Inspector General of Police and the DCI to explain where he was.
Many Kenyans feared that he might have been kidnapped for his fearless political commentary, sending panic across social media. But when he appeared unharmed, it left people with more questions than answers.
Mwangi expressed disappointment, saying such stunts make it harder to fight for true victims of kidnappings and forced disappearances. According to him, these false alarms weaken public trust and shift attention away from people who genuinely need help.
Young people across the country have been divided by the saga. Some support Mwangi’s tough stand, arguing that playing with people’s emotions over something so serious is unacceptable. Others think there may be more to Kinyagia’s story, suggesting he might have been threatened and only felt safe to return later.
Human rights defenders have warned that staging fake disappearances can damage the reputation of journalists and activists. It also risks watering down the urgency of real abduction cases, making authorities take them less seriously in future.
Mwangi now wants Kinyagia to own up and apologise to Kenyans for creating unnecessary fear and tension. As more details come out, many people are demanding a clear explanation from Kinyagia himself about what truly happened during those days he went silent.
At the moment, Kenyans remain frustrated and confused by the entire drama. This incident has taught a painful lesson that missing-person claims are not a joke and must always be handled with truth and sensitivity.
