President William Ruto on Thursday presided over a key military leadership ceremony at State House, Nairobi, marking a significant change in the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF).

During the event, President Ruto formally appointed Lieutenant General David Ketter as the new Commander of the Kenya Army. The ceremony, known as the investiture of KDF leadership, symbolized the transfer of authority and the start of a new chapter in the country’s military command.

Lieutenant General Ketter replaces Lieutenant General Peter Njiru, who served in the role since 2022. Ketter’s appointment is seen as part of a broader effort by President Ruto to realign security leadership amid ongoing national and regional security challenges.

Speaking during the ceremony, Ruto reaffirmed his trust in the KDF’s professionalism and commitment to protecting Kenya’s sovereignty. He said the leadership transition would strengthen the military’s role in safeguarding national interests both at home and abroad.

“The KDF remains a symbol of discipline and stability,” Ruto said. “With Lieutenant General Ketter at the helm of the Kenya Army, I am confident in the continued delivery of excellence.”

Ketter, who previously held various senior military positions, pledged to uphold the values of the KDF and serve the nation with honor and integrity.

The Kenya Army is the largest of the three KDF branches and plays a vital role in national defense and peacekeeping missions.

The event was attended by top military officers and senior government officials, highlighting its significance in the country’s security landscape.
