Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua accuses government-aligned politicians and security officials of planning targeted looting during the June 25 protests.
According to Gachagua, solid intelligence indicates that companies held by members of a certain group in Nairobi’s downtown district have been targeted for attack. He stated that the operation was politically motivated and coordinated by state-aligned authorities working alongside renegade police officers.
Gachagua claimed that these officials organised goons to carry out a night-time theft campaign to intimidate company owners into backing what he called an unpopular administration. He pointed out that several shops remained unharmed throughout the rallies, only to be plundered the next morning, implying a purposeful, well-planned attack.
The former DP cautioned that such deliberate economic sabotage constituted ethnic profiling and was unacceptable. He demanded accountability from the state and protection for all residents, regardless of party or ethnic identity.
