In a shocking daylight attack in Nairobi’s city centre, suspected armed robbers shot and killed a foreign millionaire businessman before escaping with a large sum of cash.
The incident occurred at about 3:00 pm yesterday near a well-known shopping and office district. The victim, a European national reported to be a successful entrepreneur, was standing beside his high-end vehicle when several men rushed toward him, brandishing automatic weapons.
Eyewitnesses say the robbers forced open the car door, seized bundles of money from a bag, and ordered the businessman to hand over more. As he complied, one of the robbers fired several shots at close range. The bullet struck him in the chest. He collapsed instantly in the street, leaving stunned pedestrians and drivers in horror.
Police and paramedics arrived within minutes, but the victim was already dead. “He was still bleeding as we put him in the ambulance,” said a bystander. “It was terrifying — so fast and so violent.”
Witnesses say four suspects fled on foot, moving between stationary traffic before disappearing into a nearby side street. They managed to escape with an estimated few million Kenyan shillings in cash.
Nairobi county police commander John Mburu confirmed the death. “We are reviewing CCTV footage and interviewing witnesses,” he said. “Our detectives are working to identify the suspects and recover the stolen money.”
Local business owners and residents are deeply shaken. “This was broad daylight on a busy street,” said a shopkeeper. “We expect safety in broad daylight.” Another added, “If they can do it here, they can do it anywhere.”
Street vendors removed their cash boxes, and some buildings have temporarily installed extra shutters. Private security companies are offering advice to reduce cash handling during the day.
Police urge anyone with information — including CCTV footage or private security camera videos — to call the nearest station or use Kenya’s anonymous tip line.
The slain businessman is the second high‑profile victim in the city in recent months. Police say both incidents show a rising trend of large-scale armed robberies targeting wealthy individuals and cash transports.
A full investigation is underway, and the authorities promise swift action. Meanwhile, the city remains on edge, with citizens calling for stronger measures to prevent such brazen crimes.
