The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has announced plans to auction assets worth over Sh428 million linked to former Migori Governor Okoth Obado and ex-Nairobi County official Stephen Osiro.

This comes after a court-approved forfeiture of properties believed to have been acquired through graft and abuse of office. The auction targets high-value real estate in Nairobi, Kisumu, and Migori counties, forming part of EACC’s ongoing efforts to recover stolen public resources.

Investigations revealed that Obado allegedly benefited from county funds through proxies, including businessman Jared Kwaga, who was used to register multiple properties.

Among the assets recovered are luxury homes, apartment blocks, and commercial buildings.

Notably, two apartments and a townhouse in Donholm’s Greenspan Estate, as well as a Sh40 million Loresho maisonette, are on the list.

In Migori, the commission seized a multi-unit residential block and a commercial centre in Suna East, collectively worth over Sh150 million.Stephen Osiro’s assets, valued at Sh193 million, include prime properties in Runda, Riara, and Mbagathi in Nairobi, alongside apartment complexes in Kisumu’s Lolwe Estate.

Investigators flagged a suspicious mismatch between Osiro’s income and his vast wealth, prompting a court-ordered forfeiture.

According to EACC CEO Abdi Mohamud, proceeds from the auction will be directed to the National Treasury to support development initiatives.

He emphasised that the crackdown on illicit wealth aims not only to recover stolen assets but also to deter public officers from abusing their positions.

The commission is calling on citizens to report unexplained wealth, vowing to pursue corrupt individuals without exception.

This move signals a firm stance in the ongoing war against corruption in Kenya.
