A chilling twist in the investigation into the death of blogger and teacher Albert Ojwang has emerged, pointing to a well-planned cover-up within Nairobi’s Central Police Station.

Ojwang, who was arrested following online posts allegedly targeting a top police official, was transferred from Homa Bay to Nairobi.Upon arrival, petty offenders were removed from the cells to make space for him, a move investigators now believe signalled the start of a deadly plot.

Sources indicate that a senior officer extended his shift into the early hours, remaining at the station for hours past his official duty time.

By morning, when another officer arrived to take over, he discovered Ojwang’s body in the cell.

Disturbed by the sight, he reportedly refused to assume duty with a corpse still in custody.

The Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA), in a closed-door briefing to Parliament, revealed a string of disturbing findings.Investigators suspect Ojwang was tortured for refusing to name individuals behind the social media account he operated.

A technician has confessed to deleting CCTV footage from the station on instruction, suggesting a deliberate attempt to erase evidence.

Meanwhile, a suspect’s statement has alleged that four officers propped Ojwang upright to make it seem he was alive during his removal from the cell.

With arrests already underway, including that of Constable James Mukhwana and the station’s OCS, the hunt for more suspects continues.

The parliamentary security committee is expected to table a final report on the case next week.
