Top Police Boss Breaks Silence on DIG Lagat’s Fate Amid Mounting Pressure for him to resign immediately to give room for investigation concerning the mysterious death of Ojwang.

Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Douglas Kanja has clarified why his counterpart, DIG Noor Gabow Lagat, has not stepped down despite ongoing pressure and public speculation surrounding his conduct.

Speaking during a press briefing on Wednesday, Kanja dismissed rumors suggesting that Lagat had tendered his resignation or was on the verge of doing so.

According to Kanja, the reports are not only premature but also misleading.

“There is a clear procedure for such matters, and as far as I’m concerned, DIG Lagat has neither resigned nor expressed intention to do so,” Kanja stated.

“He remains actively engaged in his duties, and the National Police Service has not received any formal communication indicating otherwise.”

The speculation surrounding Lagat’s position follows recent incidents where questions have been raised regarding his handling of internal security operations.

While civil society groups have been calling for accountability, Kanja insisted that any actions taken must follow due process.

“Accountability is vital, but we cannot rush to judgment based on social media or political pressure,” he added.

Kanja emphasized that the Police Service is committed to transparency and will investigate any allegations raised against any senior official, including DIG Lagat, through the right legal channels.

As the debate intensifies, all eyes are now on the National Police Service Commission and Interior Ministry to see whether formal proceedings will be initiated or if Lagat will continue serving undisturbed.
