Haji

After serving as the Kenya Defence Forces Sergeant Major for the last one year, Warrant Officer Class One ( WO1) Haji Bwana Omar is soon exiting the stage. He has already hit the retirement age of 60 years.

As the highest ranked non- commissioned officer in the KDF today, Warrant Officer Class One ( WO1 ) Bwana Haji is a very powerful man.

He ascended to the position of the KDF Sergeant Major in late 2024 to succeed the late Warrant Officer Class One ( WO1) Elijah Aspro Koranga, who retired after 42 years in the military.

Prior to his appointment as the KDF Sergeant Major, WO1 Bwana Haji served as the Kenya Navy Sergeant Major for close to one decade.

The now 60-year old Kenya Navy soldier is a key link between the Chief of Defence Forces General Charles Muriu Kahariri and the soldiers.

He also ensures that the troops are disciplined and motivated. And most importantly, he advices newly- commissioned officers.

WO1 is also the principal advisor to the CDF on military welfare.

Who Will succeed the KDF Sergeant Major? Is Kenya Army’s Sergeant Major WO1 Joel Murage the right man to take over the job?

According to his profile on Ministry of Defence website, WO1 Bwana was born in November 1965. This means he is already past the retirement age. But he is still serving in this powerful post.
