10m shoes to be distributed in anti-jigger campaign

Anti-jigger campaigners will distribute 10 million shoes to school-going children in the country.
Ahadi Trust Chief Executive Officer Stanley Kamau on Friday said the fight against jiggers is crucial to enable children learn without disruptions.
Dr Kamau spoke at Milima Primary School in Kitale, Trans Nzoia County where he distributed shoes to the pupils.
He said by end of next year, the organisation would have distributed about 10 million shoes to vulnerable school-going children.
He urged politicians seeking various elective seats not to forget about the menace as they talk about addressing other social challenges facing Kenyans.
He also said he was happy that a policy on fighting jiggers had been developed by the government.
“The government has been able to give us a policy on jiggers. We will now have a jiggers awareness day March 3 every year,” he said.
He said the policy will give a comprehensive and structured manner on the fight against the parasites.
Dr Kamau pointed out Busia, Bungoma, Kilifi, Lamu and Murang’a as some of top ten counties known to be notorious for the jigger menace.
Nation Media Group’s Editor in Chief Tom Mshindi, appealed to the media fraternity to focus more on social issues that have huge impacts on the community.
“We do stuff around politics, we report business, environment but I think it’s time focus a little more on social impacts like such activities as fighting Jiggers, pregnancies among kids, youth unemployment and so forth.
“When describing poverty and how to eliminate it, you need to have a multi dimension approach,” he said.
