Friends and former colleagues of deceased TV journalist Rita Tinina have continued to pay glowing tributes to her ahead of her burial. Violet Otindo, a former college mate and close friend of Rita Tinina, recounted how she cleared her rent arrears when her house was being locked.

Violet, a former reporter at K24, had not paid rent for three months because at the time, she was still tarmacking after graduating from the Kenya Institute of Mass Communication (KIMC).

She was in the same class with Rita and when she sought her help, she intervened. Rita got a job before her and helped her clear the 3 months’ rent which amounted to Ksh 24,000.

Back then, Ksh 24,000 was a lot of money. ” I remember once I was still tarmacking and had rent arrears for three months… my house was being locked up by the landlord; you took a whopping Sh24,000 (this was a lot of money then) and paid my rent,” wrote Violet.

She described Rita as a kind-hearted woman and focused. She held her hand when she came to the city from the village to pursue her education at KIMC College in South B.

Their friendship lasted for years even after leaving college. ”Though Rita may be absent from our sight, she will forever remain present in our hearts, cherished and remembered with love,” she mourned.
