Former Westlands MP Fred Gumo shared asking beloved NTV journalist Rita Tinina when she would get married to his nephew Robert Nagilla, also a journalist.

The family, friends and colleagues of late Journalist Rita Tinina have eulogised the scribe as a gentle person who could accommodate anyone.

The two of them had been seeing each other for a long time.

Gumo was speaking at the requiem mass of the late Tinina held on March 25, 2024, at the Holy Family Basilica.

Speaking during the requiem mass for Tinina, NTV journalist Olive Burrows who read the statement by the family expressed the family’s grief and shock following Tinina’s untimely demise.

“Each time I met her I asked when is this joyful day coming? You cannot be friends forever. She kept on telling me mheshimwa don’t worry the day will come,” said Gumo.

They eulogised Tininia as a soft-spoken person who listened patiently to every one.From the fuel attendant at the petrol station to the watchman, Tinina impacted lives, without caring about the people’s backgrounds, the family said.

“Even when were at the funeral of Bob’s father, I asked when is the day coming, and she said the day would come. I didn’t know the day that was going to come was this particular day that I didn’t want to come to. As we all know, when God wants you, you will have to go,” he added.

Tinina was also celebrated as a journalist who mentored younger journalists in the profession, many of whom attributed their success to her guidance.

Gumo also shared that he heard of Tinina’s death when he was in Kitale, and he was devastated. He praised the departed journalist for loving the truth as a journalist.

At the end of the tribute the family urged Kenyans to emulate Tinina writing; “If your tomorrow never comes, who will remember you and how will you be remembered?”

According to Gumo, journalists made people know politicians and also let the people what was happening with the government.

Tinina is set to be buried on Wednesday, March 27 in Olokirikirai, Narok county.

“We thought you were ours, but numerous tributes have been written, each expressing their personal experience with Rita, “the tribute reads.

Speaking from Umash Funeral Home, family spokesperson Timothy Njaga said they are satisfied with the results.
