One year ago, the Independent Electoral Boundaries Commission announced Mr William Ruto as the duly elected President and after a court battle, Mr William was later sworn in as the new President of Kenya. The IBC commissioners met at Bomas for a briefing by chairman Wafula Chebukati at the time and he told them that he had a winner who had met the Constitutional requirements for annunciation as President.He went on to say that he was Mr William Ruto. This didn’t go well with the other commissioners who lamented that they had just seen the result’s there. Cherera wondered why she would be accessing the results just a few minutes to the release of the results. She added that they had to scrutinize the result’s yet again before announcing anything. She even added that they should consider the recommendations of the security team that had warned them against announcing Ruto as it would plunge the country into chaos.
On if any of the commissioners would accompany him, Mrs Cherera blatantly said no. “Go alone, and announce him, she said. Other commissioners like Wanderi, Mr Nyangaya, Commissioner Masit. Cherera had earlier on lamented of premeditated results by Chebukati and the two other commissioners. That the two of them seemed like outsider’s in the commission.
