President William Ruto linked Renton Company Limited, has been dealt a significant legal blow after the High Court ruled that its acquisition of a 1,643-acre piece of land in Ruai, Nairobi, valued at KSh 13 billion, was illegal.

The court has ordered the cancellation of Renton’s title to the land, which had previously been gazetted as protected by former President Uhuru Kenyatta for the expansion of Nairobi’s sewer system.

In her ruling, Justice Ann Omollo declared that Renton had failed to prove legal ownership of the land, which had been the subject of a heated dispute between the government and private entities.

“The second defendant has not shown evidence that it indeed acquired this property for valuable consideration as it is alleging. The copy of title annexed to the report by the National Land Commission shows no entry of the transfer in favor of the second defendant hence the title was acquired illegally,” ruled Justice Omollo.
