Raila Odinga, the head of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), and several local politicians were heckled at Gusii Stadium while attending the unveiling of Shabana FC’s shirt, only one day after reaching a political accord with President William Ruto at KICC.

Despite Kisii being one of his political strongholds, the former prime minister faced an unfriendly reception from a section of the crowd at the stadium, with some attendees were heard chanting anti-Ruto slogans, while others openly criticized Raila.

The heckling came just a day after the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) announced a coalition agreement with President Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance (UDA) to work together in government.

The event astonished some political figures because Raila is rarely confronted with such animosity, especially in his stronghold of Luo Nyanza.

Kajiado North Member of Parliament, Onesmus Ngogoyo, praised the people of Kisii after former Prime Minister Raila Odinga faced an unexpected hostile reception from locals at Gusii Stadium.

Speaking during a morning show on K24 TV, on Monday, March 10, 2025, Ngogoyo applauded the locals for being candid with the former Prime Minister, noting that their shouts represented frustration and displeasure with the current government led by President William Ruto.

The Kajiado North MP also stated that the “Ruto Must Go” shouts gave Raila an opportunity to reconsider his recently established political coalition with President William Ruto. He insisted that Raila was to blame for the treatment he received in Kisii.

“First of all, we hail the Kisii people for being real. They have given Baba the feeling on the ground. Odinga has put himself in a mess he did not create,” Ngogoyo stated.
