Woman killed and another injured in Longewan area. Victims were allegedly shot by police reservists who were repulsing armed bandits.

The armed bandits ambushed the officers in what was perceived as a revenge mission.

Rift Valley regional Commissioner Abdi Hassan confirmed that the incident occurred on Saturday evening, March 11.

The armed gang, he stated, attacked the officers but were repulsed in a fierce shootout that left the woman dead and her friend injured.

Reports indicated that the bandits were rebelling against the enforced radical measures by the government to tame their operations.

Locals also said that the bandits were regrouping before carrying out more attacks.

One of the locals told the police that larger groups of armed bandits were seen in their usual areas at 4pm.

In the ongoing operations, the bandits lost their rifles after stealing over 120 goats.

The injured woman was rushed to the hospital for emergency treatment with gunshot wounds.

The body of the deceased was transferred to the hospital mortuary awaiting postmortem.
