In a startling turn of events, businesswoman Linet Kainyu finds herself facing serious charges after an alleged attempt to drug her companion during a rendezvous at a vacation house in Nairobi. The incident, which took place on October 23, 2023, has raised eyebrows and prompted a thorough investigation.
Kainyu stands accused of administering an unidentified stupefying substance to Jacob Kibet at an apartment on Lumumba Drive in Roysambu. It is alleged that Kainyu enticed Kibet with the promise of drinks and intimacy, but the evening took a dark turn when Kibet discovered a suspicious tablet in his beverage just before consumption. Swift action followed, as Kibet promptly exited the room, alerting the apartment’s management, and the authorities were promptly notified.
The recovered tablet, which is now undergoing rigorous analysis by government chemists for identification, will play a crucial role as evidence in the forthcoming legal proceedings. Adding to the gravity of the situation, Kainyu is also facing a charge of providing false information to a Public Service Commission (PSC) employee, as per section 129 (a) of the Penal Code. It is alleged that she misled police constable Kennedy Otieno of Kasarani police station regarding her identity after her apprehension. Kainyu claimed the name “Faith Makena,” but her true identity was ultimately recorded in the digital Occurrence Book, leading to the subsequent charge.
This unsettling encounter between Kibet and Kainyu originated in a restaurant where Kibet generously loaned his phone to Kainyu, who urgently needed to contact her sister for financial assistance. Following this exchange, Kibet momentarily left the table, only to return and consume several drinks before parting ways. Two days later, Kainyu allegedly reached out to Kibet, proposing another meeting for drinks and intimate activities. They reconvened at a restaurant, indulged in libations, and procured additional takeaway beverages before heading to the ill-fated residence for the night.
As events took a sinister turn, Kibet, suspecting foul play, discovered the suspicious tablet in his beer. Prompt action led to Kainyu’s apprehension, and subsequent legal proceedings have ensued. Released on a surety bond of Sh200,000, Kainyu’s fate now rests in the hands of the judicial system. The case is slated for mention on December 5, 2023, with the trial set to commence on April 4, 2024. This incident serves as a stark reminder of the potential dangers one may encounter, even in seemingly routine social encounters.
