It’s heartbreaking to be betrayed by the one person you trust as a partner in life, especially during a time when you are fighting between life and death. Bilha shares her painful story.

Bilha was born and raised in Nakuru County. She is the firstborn among nine siblings and is a mother of four. She studied up to class 8 before dropping out due to financial instability. At a young age, she began working as a house helper to help support her younger siblings.

While working, she met her husband, who was somewhat older than her. She married him out of a desire for support rather than love, as her life was filled with struggles. The couple moved in together and had three children. However, life took a turn when her husband fell ill, and his relatives brought him back to their home, as they were living in rentals.

As time passed, Bilha went to visit him but was shocked to find that he had remarried after such a short period. The damage had been done, and she had no choice but to move on. She remarried in Kiambu, starting a new family with her children and eventually conceiving her fourth child. Her new husband treated them well, and life seemed to improve.

During her seventh month of pregnancy, Bilha developed complications and was admitted to the hospital, leaving her kids with their father. She spent two months in the hospital before giving birth. After her discharge, she was relieved to reunite with her family. However, upon her return, something appeared to be troubling the kids, but she attributed it to the stress of her absence. She encouraged them, hoping that everything would return to normal.

Two days later, her brother visited, and when he was leaving, Bilha’s 12-year-old daughter asked to accompany him. Concerned about her daughter’s request, Bilha declined, but when her brother escorted the girl, she climbed a tree in a desperate attempt to commit suicide. Bilha rushed to her side and tried to talk her down, urging her to explain what was troubling her.

The girl revealed that her father had been assaulting her for the two months Bilha was in the hospital, threatening to kill her if she spoke out. When Bilha confronted her husband about the allegations, he denied them and continued to threaten the children. Bilha secretly reported the situation to the police, and a medical examination confirmed that her daughter was less than two months pregnant.

Eventually, her husband was arrested, charged with defilement, and sentenced to life in prison. For Bilha and her children, this ordeal feels like a horror movie. She humbly appeals to well-wishers for assistance, as she is currently homeless.
