A 22-year-old woman has been charged with allegedly abusing a 16-year-old boy and keeping him away from school. Mercy Chelanga, who works at a local bar in Ololulunga market in Narok North, appeared in court on Wednesday before Resident Magistrate Phyllis Shinyada.

According to the court, the victim had been assaulted from December 16, 2022, until Tuesday, April 18, 2023. The boy’s mother became worried after her son started disappearing without explanation and began investigating. She was later informed by well-wishers that her son was being held at Chelanga’s house and went there to find him locked inside while the accused was at work.

The mother reported the incident to the authorities, and Chelanga was arrested. The boy initially fled into a nearby forest but was later apprehended.

Chelanga was arraigned in court and charged with holding the minor in her house for over a month. She denied the charges, and the case has been scheduled for mention on Thursday, April 27, 2023.

The court process is ongoing, and the accused is presumed innocent until proven guilty. The authorities are urging anyone with information about the case to come forward and assist with investigations.
