Embattled Siaya Deputy Governor William Oduol has broken silence after the Senate was notified of his impeachment by the County Assembly.
Speaker Amason Kingi on Thursday confirmed having received a letter communicating the decision to remove Oduol from office by the way of impeachment.
“This is to inform you that on Thursday the 8th June 2023, during the afternoon sitting of the county Assembly of Siaya via the resolution of the Assembly approved the motion to remove from office the Deputy Governor of Siaya County, Mr. William Oduol by way of impeachment,” he said.
Kingi said the letter informed him the Siaya MCAs found Oduol guilty of allegations raging from interference with the procurement process, bullying, misuse of public resources and misleading the public by spreading false information.
He said the Senate Business Committee has deliberated on the matter and has scheduled a notice of motion for establishment of a Special Committee compromising of 11 members to investigate the matter or investigate the matter in plenary.
“The Special Committee will be required under section 33 (4) of the CG Act to investigate the matter and report to the Senate within 10 days whether it finds the particulars of the allegations of the DG to have been substantiated,” he said.
Oduol said irrespective of how the Senate will rule on his impeachment, he will continue fighting corruption which he alleged was deep-rooted in Siaya county under the leadership of Governor James Orengo.
“I may not live long enough to see Siaya transition into a metropolis of skyscrapers and expressways but I can certainly stop plundering of funds meant for construction of roads and other infrastructure,” he tweeted.
“I speak for the voiceless majority. Let no voter in Siaya who casts his/her ballot ever again be dupped by self-serving leaders masquerading as liberation fighters. Accountability must apply equally to all,” Oduol added.
