Controversial singer William Getumbe has been released from custody. The artiste was apprehended on Monday, March 11, and taken to Kapsoya Police Station in Eldoret. After enduring hours of detention, Getumbe was granted release on a KSh 10,000 cash bail.
His arrest was ordered by the Kenya Film and Classification Board (KFCB) due to the controversial nature of his song titled ‘Yesu Ninyandue’. The KFCB issued a statement supporting the arrest, citing concerns about indecent content.
Getumbe is now expected to make a court appearance on Friday, March 15. Speaking exclusively to media following his arrest, he revealed that he faces charges related to his failure to obtain a KFCB license. According to him, he was presented with a substantial fee of KSh 243,000 as part of the licensing requirements.
Despite his release, the financial burden remains. Getumbe has reached out to the general public, appealing for assistance through donations. He said “I don’t have the funds to cover the KSh 234,000. Any support or useful assistance regarding this matter would be greatly appreciated.”
