Speaking after the event on February 27, Karua stated that she did not invite the former Prime Minister, despite their longstanding friendship. She emphasized that while they remain personally close, their political paths have diverged.
Karua criticized Raila and his Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) for attempting to straddle both the government and opposition, calling it a legally questionable move.
She argued that ODM avoided signing a formal post-election coalition agreement but still enjoys government privileges while holding opposition positions.
“I did not invite him. Raila is my friend, but politically, we are on different sides. He has one foot in government and another in opposition,” Karua remarked.
She also questioned ODM’s ability to oversee the government while occupying key oversight roles in Parliament.
On Raila’s potential 2027 presidential bid, Karua ruled out supporting him but said he is welcome to join the opposition if he chooses.
“I don’t see that happening,” she said. “But if he changes course, the door is open.”
