The tragic death of Delphina Wambui Ngingi in Canada has left many questioning why she wasn’t provided with shelter by other Kenyans living in the country before her untimely demise under unexplained circumstances.

Delphina, a 46-year-old widow and mother of four, had traveled to Canada in search of better opportunities to support her family.

However, upon her arrival in Ontario, she found herself without a place to stay. Despite reaching out to a friend, Teresia Wanjiku, for assistance, Delphina tragically froze to death outside a shelter after being turned away due to its full capacity.

Teresia Wanjiku, in an interview, revealed that Delphina’s journey to Canada was prompted by her desire to provide for her children after losing her job in Kenya.

Despite facing numerous challenges, including the loss of her father and struggles with employment, Delphina remained determined to seek a better future for her family.

So why wasn’t Delphina hosted by other Kenyans living in Canada before her tragic death? According to Teresia Wanjiku, Delphina’s status as an asylum seeker played a significant role.

Asylum seekers, like Delphina, often face complex bureaucratic processes and legal restrictions that may limit their access to support services, including accommodation.

Additionally, the overwhelming demand for shelter and resources for migrants in countries like Canada can pose challenges for individuals like Delphina, who find themselves in urgent need of assistance.

While Teresia Wanjiku directed Delphina to the shelter for help, the system’s limitations may have ultimately contributed to her tragic fate.

The news of Delphina’s death has sparked an outpouring of condolences and support from both the Kenyan and Canadian communities.

Efforts are underway to provide financial assistance to Delphina’s grieving family through contributions to Joseph Ngige’s M-Pesa number.
