The Azimio La Umoja coalition has revealed why it has decided to revive it’s nationwide rallies, even after agreeing to hold talks with President William Ruto.
The coalition has announced that the rallies will begin in Kamukunji on Sunday, before spreading to other parts of the country, public barazas similar to what came before it’s now suspended demos and protests.
Azimio Executive Council Chair Wycliffe Oparanya on Tuesday revealed that the the purpose of the public barazas is to enable the party to explain to the people the upcoming course of action following the suspension of protests.
“We will hold the first town hall meeting in Nairobi on Thursday, April 13, 2023, to be followed by a people’s Baraza at the Kamukunji grounds on Sunday, April 16, 2023,” the former Kakamega governor said.
He added that this should not be taken to mean that Azimio has opted out of the talks with Ruto, insisting that it remains committed to the negotiations.
This comes amid wrangles between the two sides after Azimio boss Raila Odinga introduced fresh demands, demands Kenya Kwanza has rejected, accusing him of having a hidden motive.
He has warned of a return of the protests if the defiance continues.
