Teargas has engulfed the area surrounding the Parliament Buildings in Nairobi as violent protests erupted, demanding immediate government action on femicide.

Hundreds of demonstrators, including women’s rights activists, had gathered to deliver a petition to MPs calling for the creation of a law to end femicide once and for all.

Tensions flared as anti-riot police clashed with the crowd, firing tear gas and dispersing protesters with force.

The marchers, determined to be heard, rallied under the banner of “End Femicide Now,” with chants echoing through the streets. The protest intensified as the police sought to contain the situation.

Despite the escalating violence, the demonstrators vowed to continue their fight for justice and stronger legal protections for women.

On the same note, Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru has called for the formation of a special police unit within the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to deal with rising cases of femicide in the country.

Waiguru said the unit within the existing structure of DCI will help in probing and stopping the ongoing killings of women in the country.
