Kenyan band Sauti Sol, consisting of Bien-Aime’ Baraza, Willis Chimano, Savara Mudigi and guitarist Polycarp Otieno, has been proudly representing Kenyans with their captivating music for 18 years, making them the most popular music of a band.

Although the band announced its disbandment in 2023 after 18 years of existence, this group, so important to the history of Kenyan music, would not be complete without an important part of the history of Sauti Sol.

Although every Kenyan band has its own style, I always wonder if there will be another band like Sauti Sol. Looking at the current band and the music they make, we can easily say that the future is promising.

Let’s take a look at some of the bands that are making waves in Kenya:

  1. Vijana Barubaru

Tutu Kantu and Mwana wa Wambui (Vijana Barubaru) As a duo they have attracted a huge fan base and their sound Music resonates a lot. His songs are informed by personal experiences and themes that resonate with listeners.

  1. Watendawili

This is a duo group consisting of Eugine Ywaya and Israel Onyach, their songs revolve around the sauti sol genre, i.e. African pop music, but they have their own style of character.

The duo decided to split after previously signing a deal with Sol Generation, claiming that this deal puts them first in favor of those who signed by playing music and goals that appeal to them. This song is both amazing and we all know the nature of words and how they can influence and captivate us. One of my favorite lyrics is “New Song of Faith 2018” from their latest acoustic track “Napenda kupendwa na We”.

The duo is chasing numbers, building a strong relationship with fans and their most popular song Cham Tum (atoti) still has over 1 million views on YouTube.

3.Brokuod

Judging from the word “brothers”, I guess Bruokod is a trio consisting of Mbithi, Mabeya (Crooner) and Petero who are quickly gaining a foothold in the Kenyan music scene.

Famous for their beautiful performances, the trio embodies the reality of “A la Carte” with their fascinating songs. Mbithi, Mabeya (Crooner) and Petero -Brokuod Similar to Sauti Sol, the trio are iconic figures of the African pop music scene. However, they expressed their belief that they should not be limited to a single genre because they want diversity in music.

Brokuod has released three EPs: Sherehe, Kwetu, Shades of Us and they are yet to release their debut album this year.

4.Jadi Music

Jadi is a Kenyan Afrofusion boy band signed by Kaka Empire, founded by Vince and Don.Tumbo. These two young people are known for their love songs, which are captivating songs that attract the attention of listeners.
