ODM leader Raila Odinga and President William Ruto officially met today at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC), where they signed an agreement for cooperation between them and the government. The meeting, which had been highly anticipated, marks a new chapter in Kenya’s political landscape as the two leaders agreed to work together based on the recommendations of the National Dialogue Committee (NADCO) report of 2023 and a ten-point agenda.

The agreement comes after months of discussions aimed at finding common ground following the heated political climate after the 2022 general elections. The NADCO report, which was released in late 2023, provided key recommendations on issues such as electoral reforms, governance, and economic stability.

One of the major recommendations in the report was the restructuring of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to ensure a more transparent electoral process in future elections. The report also suggested the establishment of the Office of the Leader of the Official Opposition and the Office of the Prime Minister to promote inclusivity in governance.

Economic concerns were also a key part of the discussions, as the NADCO report proposed measures to address the high cost of living. These included reducing government spending on travel, lowering fuel levies, and reviewing taxation policies to ease the burden on citizens. The agreement between Odinga and Ruto is expected to provide a framework for implementing these changes, with both sides committing to ensuring political stability and economic progress.

Speaking after signing the agreement, Raila Odinga emphasized the importance of national unity and cooperation, while President Ruto welcomed the move, saying it was a step toward achieving long-term peace and development in the country. Amid the event, Raila supporters can be seen celebrating outside the KICC with some swimming at the center’s pool.
