During the funeral ceremony of the late marathoner Kelvin Kiptum, an elderly woman attempted to reach the podium during President William Ruto’s speech, but was blocked by his security . Rachel Ruto, the wife of the Deputy President, intervened to calm the situation. The woman later explained that she interrupted the speech because she wanted a job for her son.An incident captured on video shows Ruto addressing the situation by saying “Wachana na yeye, wacha yeye aketi hapa” (Leave her alone, leave her here) while the woman was being prevented from reaching him.

The audience reacted to the elderly woman’s attempt to reach the podium during President William Ruto’s speech with curiosity and concern. After the woman breached security and approached the president, causing a brief interruption, President Ruto addressed the crowd, saying “Leave that woman… we will sort her out”.

Mrs. Rachel Ruto, the first lady, and Mr. Gachagua’s wife, Dorcas Rigathi, also intervened to listen to the woman’s concerns. The ceremony got interrupted but later was calmed after the president said to sort the woman’s problem. Mr. President while speaking said that he would add another house to the parents of the deceased Kevin Kiptum and also promised to give job to wife of the late Kelvin Kiptum.
