On February 8, 2023, the body of Christine Makena Maingi, a 35- year- old woman, was discovered in a residential building in the Gathogora area of Ruiru Sub- County.
At first, detectives thought that the victim had committed suicide since drugs were found at the scene.
However, an autopsy later revealed that she had been strangled before her death.
Police reports show that Christopher Kiptum Keter, a 50- year- old man, was the last person seen with the victim.
Kiptum, who is believed to be a pastor, was found hiding out in Embakasi’s Mukuru kwa Njenga slums on March 7, 2023.
He had been on the run ever since the allegations that he had murdered Christine Makena Maingi surfaced.
CCTV footage and mobile phone communications obtained by the detectives revealed that Kiptum and Makena were together on the nights of February 5th and 6th.
The suspect and the deceased would frequently meet at Makena’s residence, where she lived with her parents.
The family had just returned from their trip upcountry when the incident occurred.
Relatives of Makena’s family reveal that the suspect was initially introduced to the victim by Makena as a pastor, and the two of them would frequently get together for prayer sessions.
The first time the two people connected was while they were traveling from Mombasa to Nairobi at the beginning of this year.
On February 18th, memorial services for Makena were held in Meru County.
The suspect is currently in police custody, awaiting arraignment on Thursday for the crime of murder, which is a violation of section 203 of the penal code. The tragic death of Christine Makena Maingi has left her family and loved ones devastated.
The community has also been affected by this heinous crime.
