A resident of Mombasa has described President William Ruto as a “prodigal son” who has now returned to his father, Raila Odinga.
Speaking during an interview with K24 TV, the resident urged Kenyans to remain calm and observe how Raila whom he referred to as “Baba,” would now shape the country’s direction.
“Ruto is the prodigal son; he was lost and has now returned to his father. Citizens should remain calm and watch as Baba (Raila Odinga) organizes Kenya. Ruto will now be listening to his father,” he said, suggesting that Raila Odinga would now have a major influence in the government.
This reaction follows the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between President Ruto and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga. The two leaders agreed to work together in the interest of the public, a move that has sparked mixed reactions across the country.
For years, Ruto and Raila have been political rivals with each leading opposing camps in past elections. However, their recent pact signals a shift in Kenya’s political landscape with many now speculating about potential power-sharing agreements and policy realignments.
In Mombasa, some residents welcomed the move saying it would foster unity and bring an end to political tensions. Others however, remained skeptical questioning whether the agreement was truly for the public’s benefit or a strategic move for political survival.
Political analysts suggest that the new alliance could reshape the 2027 general election, potentially influencing key political formations and alliances. However, only time will tell how this partnership will play out in governance and policy-making.
As Kenyans react to this surprising political development, the focus remains on how Ruto and Raila will implement their agreement and whether it will indeed serve the interests of the people.
