MP Millie Odhiambo today interrupted the debate on the Land Commission Bill in Parliament following reports of a military chopper crash in West Pokot County.

Millie, who rose to speak, stated that the military helicopter crash, which was carrying CDF Francis Ogolla, is an issue of national interest and that the house should not proceed with its operation as if nothing has happened.

“Madam Speaker, we are proceeding in this house as if everything is normal, yet we are hearing rumors of an aircraft crash involving CDF Francis Ogolla and five others. Madam Speaker, that is something of national interest and serious national concern,” Millie Odhiambo stated.

She further said that the Majority Leader, Kimani Ichung’wa, should confirm whether the reports about the chopper crash in West Pokot are true or mere rumors.

She suggested that the house should not proceed with the Land Commission Bill until the news about the helicopter crash is confirmed.

“Madam Speaker, the Majority Leader is here. I think it would be good if he could allay our fears or confirm whether it is true, so that we can deal with it. I think it would be appropriate for us as a house not to proceed with the Land Commission Bill when we have such a serious issue of national interest,” Millie Odhiambo said.

“Can he confirm whether the issue of the crash is true or merely a rumor?” said Millie Odhiambo.

Meanwhile, the government has not issued a statement on the safety of CDF Francis Ogolla amidst reports that five people have been confirmed dead.
