According to Citizen TV news reporter Rashid Abdalla, the four victims were among a group of travelers waiting at a stage in Bulemia, Budalang’i, Busia County, to board a vehicle for their Christmas holiday destination. Their dreams of celebrating with their loved ones were dashed in an instant when a speeding lorry, coming from the direction of Mundere Port Victoria, veered off the road and rammed into them, killing them on the spot.
One of the witnesses said that the travelers were in high spirits, looking forward to their holiday trip, when the lorry, which was apparently out of control, plowed into them, leaving behind a trail of blood and debris.
The accident caused a stir in the area, as residents and passersby rushed to the scene, trying to help the injured and the dead. The authorities also arrived promptly, cordoning off the area and launching an investigation into the cause of the accident.
According to the police, the lorry driver lost control of the vehicle due to a mechanical fault, resulting in the fatal crash that claimed the lives of the four innocent travelers. The police also urged drivers and road users to exercise caution and observe traffic rules during the festive season, as the roads are usually busy and prone to accidents.
The four victims, whose names have not been released yet, were among the many Kenyans who travel across the country during the Christmas holidays, hoping to spend quality time with their families and friends. Their tragic demise serves as a sobering reminder of the preciousness of life and the need to prioritize safety at all times, especially during such festive periods.
