Evans Makaka seems to be an unlucky fellow. He was serving a jail term of six years after killing his lover in 2019. But recently, he has been sentenced to another two years in prison after he escaped custody.

Makaka who is serving at Kamiti Medium Prison pleaded guilty for escaping lawful custody. He said that he was devastated by the news that his wife was pregnant. Initially, he was serving the six-year jail term after admitting to killing his lover, Esther Njeri in 2019.

Njeri was killed after returning to the house after meeting a man she said had come to deliver a waiting card for her ID.

 

She died due to blunt force trauma. She was found two days later with a note from Makaka stating that he killed her for cheating on him. However, Makaka made an application for a plea bargain and the murder was reduced to manslaughter.

In hi latest incident, he was under the watch of one officer identified as Sergeant Patrick Muthini. He excused himself to go to the toilet before disappearing. A manhunt was launched and he got arrested by prison officers after shooting in the air to scare him.

It is said he was caught hiding and had removed his trousers. He got violent when they tried to arrest him. He was presented before Senior Principal Magistrate Hellen Okwani after escaping prison on November 8.

He pleaded guilty and said he was irked by the news of his wife’s pregnancy. He said he was devastated that the wife didn’t communicate to him about the child. He said he regrated his actions that almost cost Muthini his career. He pleaded for leniency and was sentenced to two years in prison.
