David Ndii, Chairperson of the Presidential Council of Economic Advisors, has condemned the current anti-government protests, accusing them of causing disorder in the country. Using his X account as a forum, Ndii warned the youth against joining in demonstrations, stating that the government would not hesitate to take severe action against individuals instigating violence.

Ndii emphasized the necessity of keeping peace and voiced confidence in the current administration, led by President William Ruto. He lauded the government’s successes, claiming that it had reached key milestones. Ndii also linked his personal political freedom and freedoms to his efforts, encouraging young people to take a same proactive approach to accomplishing their goals.

In reaction to internet criticism accusing his generation of contributing to the country’s economic problems, Ndii maintained his stance. He claimed that he and his colleagues battled for the political and civic liberties that they now enjoy, meaning that the younger generation must likewise take responsibility for their own future. Ndii vowed that he would not allow what he called a “mindless mob” to stymie the government’s efforts.

His remarks came immediately after he addressed the contentious Finance Bill from this year. Ndii has previously accused prior governments of accruing massive debts through corruption, which he claimed contributed to the country’s current economic problems. He contended that many demonstrators were ignorant that their parents had profited from fraudulent methods, leading to the nation’s financial woes.

Ndii reaffirmed that the government would not give in to pressure from street protests over the Finance Bill 2024. He urged the youth to support the proposed tax reforms, which he claimed were intended to reinvigorate the economy. He stressed that the government’s initiatives sought to stabilize the financial situation and support long-term growth.
