The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has clarified its stance on potentially forming alliances with other political parties.

In a statement released by acting party leader Anyang’ Nyong’o on Friday, December 6, 2024, ODM has maintained that they remain Kenya’s party of choice and will continue to fight for the people’s interests.

“Today, I wish to reaffirm the unwavering commitment of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) to the democratic principles that define our party. ODM was founded as an independent, revolutionary, and people-centred movement, and we remain steadfast in these ideals.

“Our mission has always been to serve the Kenyan people by championing justice, equity, and sustainable development. As ODM members, we are resolute in upholding the values of democracy, accountability, and transparency in our quest to create a better Kenya for all,” Nyong’o’s statement read.

Alliances
Stating their willingness to work with other parties, ODM has, however, warned that they will not champion the agendas of any other party.

“Let there be no misunderstanding: ODM does not play second fiddle or trumpet the interests of any other political party. We remain a formidable force in shaping Kenya’s political landscape, firmly rooted in our principles and ideology.

“However, as a political entity, we understand the value of strategic partnerships. From time to time, we may choose to form alliances and coalitions with other parties or groups that align with our objectives and vision for Kenya. These partnerships are not acts of subservience but deliberate efforts to strengthen our resolve in achieving our primary goal: capturing political power to transform the lives of Kenyans,” it added.

It promised that it would continue to be a party that champions principles of integrity and progress in the country.

“As we move forward, let every Kenyan know that ODM is committed to the aspirations of the people and will continue to be a beacon of hope, integrity, and progress in our nation’s politics,” the statement concluded.

Nyong’o’s statement comes at a time when ODM and President William Ruto’s ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA) have shown potential signs of working together in the future.

The line separating the two parties has been almost invisible, especially since the formation of the broad-based government and the impeachment of Rigathi Gachagua as Kenya’s Deputy President.
