Gatundu MP Elijah Njoroge took to Facebook to voice his frustrations towards Bishop Ben Kiengei, following a heated online exchange between the two. This disagreement intensified after Kiengei made a controversial statement claiming that he provides food, specifically maize flour, to Njoroge’s mother in his church, which Njoroge vehemently refuted.

The tension between the two public figures can be traced back to various personal and professional interactions over the years. Njoroge recounted that in 2018, he hired Kiengei as an MC for his ceremony. Their relationship appeared to be amicable, with Njoroge even offering Kiengei a job in Mangu in 2022. In 2023, he went further and donated 1.5 million shillings to help Kiengei’s church purchase chairs.

However, things took a turn in early 2024 when Njoroge claimed that Kiengei began to distance himself. Njoroge alleged that Kiengei declared he would not preach in the church when Njoroge was around, marking a significant shift in their relationship.

Njoroge’s outburst on Facebook was triggered by Kiengei’s comments about providing food to his mother. In his post, Njoroge stressed that he had built a six-bedroom house for his mother and purchased a car for her, making it clear that she was not in need of aid from Kiengei. He firmly stated, “No way my mother can be given maize flour by Kiengei,” emphasizing his family’s financial stability.

In a bid to discredit Kiengei further, Njoroge accused him of hypocrisy, claiming that they had shared alcoholic drinks together in the past and present. He positioned Kiengei’s actions as deceitful, urging the public to reconsider their views on the bishop’s character.

This public spat raises questions about the nature of their friendship and the integrity of public figures in their communities. Njoroge’s allegations against Kiengei not only challenge the bishop’s credibility but also serve as a reminder of the complexities that can arise in relationships between politicians and religious leaders.
