Busia County Governor Paul Otuoma has made a decisive statement in support of the political dialogue proposed by President William Ruto and Raila Odinga.Speaking at a recent event, Otuoma underscored the critical need for national stability to facilitate Raila’s pursuit of a prominent role in the African Union Commission (AUC).His endorsement of the dialogue initiative, despite opposition from factions within the Azimio la Umoja coalition, positions him firmly behind Raila and his diplomatic ambitions.

Otuoma’s remarks also served to rebuke leaders who oppose the dialogue, arguing strongly against the notion of handing over leadership to unfamiliar figures if President Ruto were to accede to demands from elements within Gen Z and certain factions of the Azimio coalition. He emphasized the importance of continuity under recognized leadership to maintain stability and avoid potential chaos in Kenya’s governance.

During his address, Otuoma reiterated his full support for Raila’s leadership, stating, “We have come a long way, and we cannot afford to jeopardize our progress by yielding to unknown entities.” He called for unity and warned critics not to resort to threats, asserting the readiness of dialogue proponents to mobilize public support if necessary, even returning to street protests if the situation demands it.

Meanwhile, the faction led by Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has publicly declared its refusal to participate in the proposed government of national unity led by the Kenya Kwanza initiative. Kalonzo argued that such participation would betray the sentiments of Kenyan youth who have voiced their dissent through ongoing anti-government demonstrations.

As tensions persist within the coalition, Otuoma’s steadfast support for dialogue with President Ruto underscores his strategic alignment with Raila’s vision for national reconciliation and stability. His stance carries weight not only within Busia County but also across Kenya, influencing the ongoing discourse on effective governance and the resolution of internal political divisions.
