Wanjira Wanjiru, founder of the Mathare Social Justice Centre, has emerged as a prominent voice in the growing Gen Z movement calling for President Ruto’s resignation. Leading nationwide protests that began a month ago, Wanjiru’s message is clear: “We cannot afford to give Ruto more time.”

The demonstrations, driven by frustration with the current administration, have seen significant support from young activists. “Ruto is not interested in fixing this country,” Wanjira stated emphatically, underscoring the sentiment fueling the protests.

In response to the mounting pressure, President Ruto took the drastic step of dissolving his cabinet. His subsequent nomination of a new cabinet, which notably includes members of the opposition, has done little to quell the unrest. Critics argue that these moves are insufficient and fail to address the core issues raised by the protestors.

As the demonstrations continue, Wanjira and her fellow activists remain.
