During Jamhuri Day celebrations on Tuesday, President William Ruto bestowed the prestigious Elder of the Order of the Golden Heart of Kenya (EGH) on 27 individuals.

This highest civilian award, symbolizing excellence, was largely conferred upon politicians, with many holding positions in the President’s cabinet.

In his address, President Ruto specifically commended Faith Kipyegon, recognizing her deserving inclusion in the distinguished list.

“From running barefoot to breaking two world records within a year is the ultimate heroism. Faith’s journey is an inspiration to all our young and aspiring athletes,” the President stated.

The recipients of the Elder of the Order of the Golden Heart of Kenya (EGH) included Chief of the Kenya Defence, General Ogolla Francis Omondi, and Chief of Staff Koskei Felix Kiptarus, both acknowledged by President Ruto.

Cabinet Secretaries honored with this prestigious award encompassed Davis Chirchir (Energy), Rebecca Miano (Trade), Zachariah Njeru (Water), Susan Nakhumicha (Health), Eliud Owalo (ICT), Ezekiel Machogu (Education), Peninah Malonza (EAC), Soipan Tuya (Environment), and Mithika Linturi (Agriculture).

Notably, politicians affiliated with Azimio Leader Raila Odinga, including Machakos Governor Wavinya Ndeti and National Assembly Minority Leader Opiyo Wandayi, were also among the distinguished honorees.

Senator Minority Leader Stewart Madzayo and Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga, aligned with Raila Odinga, were among those honored with the Elder of the Order of the Golden Heart of Kenya (EGH) rank. Notably, the majority of the 27 recipients were leaders affiliated with the United Democratic Alliance (UDA).

Senate Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah and Senate counterpart Aaron Cheruiyot, both from UDA, led their party members in receiving the prestigious EGH rank. The list also featured UDA governors such as Jonathan Bii (Uasin Gishu), Susan Kihika (Nakuru), Sakaja Johnson (Nairobi), Kimani Wamatangi (Kiambu), and Cecily Mbarire (Embu).

Additionally, governors Hassan Abdi Ibrahim (Isiolo), Khalif Mohamed Adan (Mandera), and Ali Mohamud Mohamed (Marsabit) were also honored.
