Githunguri MP Gathoni Wamuchomba did not join the demos called by Azimio La Umoja One Kenya party leader Raila Odinga on Wednesday.
In a Facebook post, disclosed she spent her Tuesday and Wednesday tending her coffee farm in her constituency.
Wachumomba said her plants had been affected by Coffee Berry Disease (CDB), a disease which affects developing berries, leading to berry rot and shed before the beans are formed inside, due to the ongoing cold season.
“Coffee parchment thefts are troubling us. But irrespective,we must succeed!” added the politician who served as Kiambu County Woman Representative between 2017 and 2018.
Wamuchomba, a former vernacular radio presenter, has vehemently opposed the Finance Act 2023 since it was a Bill and she voted ‘no’ twice during its second and third reading stages in the National Assembly.
The MP described it as punitive, oppressive and scandalous saying she will only endorse it once some clauses such as increase on fuel VAT and housing tax are removed or repealed.
Wamuchomba was expected to lead anti-government protests in Kiambu County according to comments a section of her fans made on her Facebook post.
Even though most of Mt Kenya leaders did not participate in demos, residents came out to protest high cost of living which has been caused by high taxes the Kenya Kwanza administration has imposed on them.
