Former Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu, popularly known as “Baba Yao,” has once again sparked debate with his fiery rhetoric. Speaking during a public gathering, Waititu issued a strong warning to bishops, cautioning them against siding with the political elite to mislead Kenyans. His remarks come at a time when the public is grappling with tough economic challenges and feeling increasingly disillusioned with leadership across the board.

In his characteristic no-holds-barred style, Waititu urged religious leaders to remain true to their spiritual calling. “Wananchi wamelia sana, sasa ni wakati wa nyinyi kuwatetea, siyo kuja kutudanganya!” he exclaimed. He went on to remind the clergy that their primary responsibility is to speak the truth and stand with the people, not to allow themselves to be used as pawns in political games.

The former governor’s passionate remarks struck a chord with many, as he delved deeper into the plight of ordinary Kenyans. “Tafadhali msikubali kudanganywa! Mungu huwa anaona kila kitu, na mkikosa kusimama na wananchi, mtahukumiwa,” he declared, eliciting cheers and applause from the crowd. His message was clear: the time for empty platitudes is over, and accountability must prevail at all levels.

Waititu’s fiery speech adds to his reputation as a controversial yet relatable political figure. While his critics accuse him of populism, his supporters applaud his boldness in calling out.
