In a recent statement, lawyer and social commentator Wahome Thuku has advised the public not to be alarmed by social media attacks. Citing the case of Muthee Kiengei, a prominent pastor with Bishop Ben JCM Church, Thuku emphasized the importance of maintaining composure in the face of online criticism.
“Four days ago, one would have thought Kiengei would be hospitalized due to the intense scrutiny he faced,” Thuku remarked. He described a recent encounter with Kiengei on Wednesday morning when the controversy was still a trending topic. However, Kiengei appeared unfazed, even using humor to address the situation.
According to Thuku, Kiengei not only joked about the allegations circulating online but also brought up new angles that the public had not yet mentioned. During an evening church service, the pastor reportedly incorporated some of the accusations against his wife into his sermon as comic relief, showcasing his ability to rise above the situation.
Thuku concluded by advising against reacting aggressively to online trolls, suggesting that instead of fighting back, one should engage with them light-heartedly. “If you mix with them and even join in the trolling, eventually they will turn on each other and disperse,” he said.
Thuku’s message is clear: social media criticism should not be a major concern, and humor and composure are effective tools for handling such situations.
