As the protests against the finance bill 2024 continue to intensify across the country, a video of former president Uhuru Kenyatta warning the nation about the power of the young people popularly known to many as Gen Z has emerged online. In the video that has since gone viral the former head of state can be heard warning his colleagues about what the Gen Z can do if not well handled.
Uhuru with a serious face and tone said that the biggest problem this country has is the young people. He said that the big number of youth in the country is a ticking time bomb if not well handled and they have the potential to blow this country into pieces. Uhuru said that the youth have to be handled carefully because they are not a threat to only one community but to all the people irregardless of their community and how they are managed is what will matter.
“The second big problem we have is our young people. Again let’s not cheat ourselves, it is our young people. We have a youth bulge which if not properly handled is a time bomb that can blow this country to pieces. And the handling of that has to be done extremely carefully, extremely carefully. That is not a problem of this community or that, it affects us all. But how we manage it we must manage it carefully. We can not manage them through inciting them…” Uhuru can be heard saying in th viral video.
This video has elicited mixed reactions from Kenyans who have now said that Uhuru knew this time was coming but many people did not believe him. Now that the revolution has begun people have started to regret why they never took Uhuru’s counsel seriously. This is not the first time that Uhuru’s counsel has been ignored by leaders. He warned Kenyans against electing Ruto and now they are regretting why they didn’t listen to him.
