Seasoned lawyer Ndegwa Njiiru has exuded confidence that Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua will survive the impeachment at the Senate as the trials begin today. Taking to his X account, Ndegwa said he believes that the victory belongs to them, adding that they will win not by power or might, but through grace.

”Dear Lord, as we head to the senate with my learned friends Paul Muite Counsel Tom Macharia, Ongoya and Swanya to defend The Deputy President, We know victory belongs to us,not by chariots, not by the size of our army, not by power or might, but by the grace shall we win,” he tweeted. Kenya’s best legal minds will joust in the Senate on Wednesday in the impeachment trial of Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, who is accused of abuse of office, and insubordination.

Gachagua’s legal team is being led by senior counsel Paul Muite, who is considered among the best lawyers in Kenya. Gachagua, who is at odds with President William Ruto, faces 11 charges, including gross violation of the Constitution, gross misconduct and abuse of office.

282 MPs voted to impeach Gachagua last week on Thursday, setting the stage for his trial in the Senate.
