Public Service, Performance and Delivery CS Moses Kuria has called for prudent financial management in public universities to minimise wastage of public funds.

Kuria who spoke during the Government Performance and Delivery Roadshow in Naivasha said the government and President Ruto have done their part and disbursed funds to universities.

“Now it’s up to you. There is no excuse for not having prudent financial management. Through the new finance record of university, we are sure our universities can keep afloat,” Kuria said.

The CS noted that there are some state corporations which are not paying salaries especially universities and he wants measures set to end the trend.

He commended Education CS Ezekiel Machogu for his efforts in dealing with mismanagement of public universities and transforming how the government finances the public universities.

“This year the government targets Sh3 trillion through eCitizen, which will increase revenue available to carry out programmes for development by 50 per cent,” Kuria said.

The CS said doubling of the revenue targets will be a boost as it will enable the government to pay debts and draw attention to development and the state of economy.

He also urged all the State corporations to efficiently use resources and not waste the taxpayers’ money noting that taxpayers are exhausted by the wastage of the funds and are already squeezed during the current tough economic times.
