A Kenyan family living in the United States has been plunged into grief after three of their children died in a road accident while on a vacation in Kenya, their community and local reports confirm.

The victims — Emmanuel Nyori DeLeon (13), Kairu (6), and another young Emmanuel Kairu — died on January 4, 2026, when the vehicle they were travelling in was involved in a fatal crash during what was meant to be a joyful Christmas holiday with family in Kenya. Their older sister, 16‑year‑old Njeri, sustained serious injuries and is currently being treated at Nairobi Hospital.

The children’s parents, Wambui Ndiragu and her husband, are from Hoover, Iowa in the United States, where their extended community expressed deep sorrow after learning of the tragedy through social media and school announcements. Hoover Middle School described Emmanuel as a cherished student and confirmed the heartbreaking loss.

The accident has shaken both the Kenyan and US‑based Kenyan community, prompting messages of support and sympathy for the family as they navigate the painful aftermath. Road safety concerns often come into sharp focus following such incidents, highlighting the vulnerability of families travelling during peak holiday periods. (Note: Details from official police or hospital statements are still emerging.)

Families and residents are urging motorists to exercise caution on Kenyan roads to prevent future tragedies, especially during holidays when traffic volumes are high.
