With the impeachment motion against Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua now in the custody of the National Assembly of the Republic of Kenya ahead of the debate and determination, political temperatures continue to highten in the country regarding the same.
The motion which was enthusiastically backed by 291 Members of Parliament who appended their signatures is now seen as a great turning point in the politics of the Republic of Kenya ahead of 2027 general elections.
The move is said to may not be smooth as it looked when the same was tabled in the floor of the House by Kibwezi West Member of Parliament Mwengi Mutuse.
In what has seemingly caused uncertainty regarding the impeachment of Gachagua, key lawmakers from Mount Kenya region are said to be developing cold feet towards the same as ground is reportedly becoming hostile and slippery. It has taken some of the key leaders from the region who have foreseen public outrage to openly clarify why they appended their signatures on the same.
While explaining her case, Embu County Woman Representative, Hon. Pamela Njoki Njeru, has now explicitly clarified that she appended her signature in support of the impeachment motion but that this doesn’t mean that she will vote in favour of the same.
She intimated that she will be guided by her conscience and the will of her people on which direction to vote as she wishes for a due democratic process to take route regarding the same.
This latest development is indeed an indication that host of lawmakers from the Mountain are seemingly finding it rough on the ground owing to their move to sacrifice their own. In light of this, things might drastically change as a huge number may develope cold feet or even abstain when time comes to vote for the impeachment motion.
It is indeed a tall order and none should celebrate the impending ouster of Mr. Gachagua as ground is likely to shift in the same regard. Key leaders from the Mount Kenya region may not betray their political courses by putting their re-election in jeopardy by voting for the impeachment of Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
