Meru Senator Kathuri Murungi has issued a stern warning to President William Ruto against attempting to initiate a handshake with opposition leader Raila Odinga, popularly known as Tinga.
Speaking during an event attended by President Ruto in Meru County, Senator Murungi cautioned that if the president went ahead with the handshake, the people of Meru would withdraw their support from him entirely.
“Rais ukijaribu kusalimia Tinga, sisi tutahama kabisa na tutoke kwako” (If the president tries to greet Tinga, we will leave and withdraw our support from him entirely), Senator Murungi declared, emphasizing the importance of the Meru people’s loyalty to the president.
The warning comes in the wake of rumors that the deputy president and the opposition leader may soon reconcile and form a political alliance. However, the senator urged the deputy president not to forget the support he has received from the people of Meru, who have stood by him through thick and thin.
The senator’s warning has sparked mixed reactions from various quarters, with some supporting his sentiments, while others have criticized him for being divisive and promoting tribal politics. However, the senator has defended his stance, stating that his primary concern is the well-being of the people of Meru and their political future.
