DCP Party leader Rigathi Gachagua has claimed that retired President Uhuru Kenyatta is working with the United Opposition to ensure President William Ruto becomes a one-term president.
Speaking during a press briefing on Tuesday, Gachagua alleged that President Ruto recently attempted to woo Uhuru into joining his camp in a bid to counter the growing opposition, but the effort failed.
According to Gachagua, Ruto’s visit to Uhuru’s Ichaweri home in Gatundu did not achieve its objective after the former president reportedly rejected the offer.
The DCP boss claimed that Ruto wanted to use Uhuru to split United Opposition votes in the Mt Kenya region, a move he says was firmly turned down.
Gachagua also hinted at a possible rapprochement between himself and Uhuru, a development that could derail Ruto’s efforts to divide the Mt Kenya vote.
Although the two leaders were bitter rivals during the run-up to the 2022 General Election, reports now indicate they have buried the hatchet and are working together to present a united Mt Kenya front.
Mt Kenya played a decisive role in Ruto’s 2022 victory and remains a key battleground as he eyes re-election.
The former Deputy President further expressed confidence that the opposition will defeat Ruto in the next election.
“The ODM original is gone. The mountain is gone. We will get 70+1 and make him a one-term president,” Gachagua stated.
However, he urged Kenyans to be patient with the opposition, noting that the coalition is not in a rush to unveil its presidential flag bearer.
