President Uhuru Kenyatta on Friday ordered the closure of bars in Nairobi, Machakos, Kajiado, Kiambu and Nakuru due to the increased Covid-19 positivity rate in the country.
The Head of State further banned the sale of alcohol in eateries in the five counties until further notice, instructing restaurants and eateries to provide take-away services only.
Eateries in other parts of the country will, however, continue operating in strict adherence to the health protocols.
Curfew hours
The President also revised the nationwide curfew to start at 8pm-4am in the listed counties. In other parts of the country the curfew will still start at 10pm.
Uhuru also ordered the cessation of all movement into and out of the counties (Nairobi, Kajiado, Machakos, Kiambu and Nakuru) effective midnight, Friday March 26, 2021.
Below is a breakdown of the new regulations:
All the new regulations at a glance;
· Five hot-zones namely; Nairobi, Kajiado, Kiambu, Machakos and Nakuru put on lockdown until further notice.
· Gatherings of all nature suspended until further notice.
· Cabinet related meetings suspended until further notice as well as the county parliamentary gatherings
· International travel continues according to existing guidelines and all incoming travelers must possess a negative Covid-19 certificate acquired in less than 96 hours.
· Curfew starts at 8pm to 4am in the hot zones but the rest of the country continues as usual, from 10pm to 4am.
· New curfew passes to be issued and all the existing ones banned.
· All forms of congregational worship in the hot-zones is stopped until further notice.
· All physical schooling banned, except for candidates sitting for their exams and medical students in colleges
· All sporting and recreation activities including members’ clubs banned.
· Closure of bars in the said places
· All restaurants in hot-zones to only offer take away services but others to continue under guidelines.
· PSVs directed to carry 60% capacity.
· Employees to work from home except those who cannot offer their services remotely
· Judiciary, law enforcement, criminal and civil justice system to eliminate non-essential physical contact.
· All hospitals directed to limit visitors to two per patient.
· All social gatherings and events to adhere to a strict maximum of 15 people.
· Weddings limited to 30 people.
· All political gatherings banned until further notice.
· Every citizen above 58 years to be vaccinated as a priority. ?
